Ink Saving and Quality Improvement

The INK SAVER module of PRESS MATCHER has been developed to not only create substantial ink savings on press but to also optimize the entire production process.

With an ink reduction of usually 20 percent or even more, not only a significant cost reduction is achieved, but also a substantial increase in print quality.

An overall lower ink coverage optimizes print contrast and enhances visible details. Spot and brand colors are also displayed more precisely.

Printing with less ink automatically leads to faster drying times and significantly increases your production speed. Print capacity that can be used for new customer orders. As a result, you can process more print jobs from your customers at the same time!

Besides that, negative effects from environmental factors are also minimized. Banners and signboards are less susceptible to fading and abrasion.

Printing more jobs means more profit; usually, INK SAVER pays for itself within less than a year.

IS EN Gears

More details:

Ink savings and cost reduction
With INK SAVER, substantial ink savings of at least 20 percent are achieved. Depending on the print process and the colors, users report even higher savings. This is particularly true in large-format printing, where advertising materials like posters or banners are reproduced.

Printing with less ink means cost can be significantly reduced. Typically, the investment usually pays for itself within one year. In addition, ink saving has many other positive effects, such as
reduced print head wear.

Quality improvement
Paradoxically as it may seem, high-speed inkjet printing benefits from substantial quality improvements when ink usage is reduced.

The most noticeable improvements are increased contrast and shadow detail, as well as improved rendering of spot and brand colors – especially those in the red area, typically a challenge for
high-speed inkjet printers.

Faster drying times
Ink usage and total ink coverage is greatly reduced. This allows for significantly faster drying times and therefore higher production speed. Increased productivity means more sales and higher margins.
Environmental resistance
A lower total ink coverage can also prevent negative impacts of environmental factors. Prints become less susceptible to fading and abrasion, for example. This is an important asset for promotional material.
Increased workflow productivity
INK SAVER uses device link profiles for converting job data. This ensures a fast and smooth production process and short processing times, even for very large jobs. IPDS environments are fully supported.
Environmentally friendly
With INK SAVER there are not only economic benefits, but also benefits for the environment. Reducing total ink coverage is by no means a negligible contribution to making your processes more environmentally friendly. This is especially true for processes that use large amounts of UV inks, as these inks have the highest savings potential, resulting in less ink waste.

    X GAMUT

Achieve accurate spot colors and brilliant images - simply using CMYK+X

Special colors are especially eye-catching, but to work with them requires effort and expense. Extra inventory, higher prices, frequent color changes, and subsequent wash-up and press downtime all add up to reduced flexibility in job processing and significantly impact the whole production workflow.EDP Award WinnerLogo

As a result, the printing press is not used to the best of its potential, and productivity drops. That costs time and money.

With X GAMUT, the fully automatic color management software for extended color printing on digital and conventional presses, spot colors can be accurately reproduced by using a standard fixed 7 or 8 color ink set (CMYK+X). Commonly, orange, green, and violet are added to CMYK.

That means you do not need to mess around with special ink mixes anymore. This considerably streamlines the production process since no press wash-ups, changeover times are necessary, greatly reducing ink inventory and waste. As a result, the software helps to reduce allover costs enormously - for printers and clients alike.

However, X GAMUT is not only ideally suited to reproduce spot and brand colors precisely. The perfect match of software features and intelligent workflow tools in X GAMUT enable printers to leverage the full gamut of the press and ink set so that images are brilliantly printed in all detail – without the need for special inks. This has made X GAMUT an important tool in the photo printing industry, too.

    XG EN Gears

    More details:

    Spot color reproduction and correction
With X GAMUT you can reproduce spot and brand colors easily, accurately, and reliably with a fixed set of extended process colors. Typically, orange, green, and violet are used, but many other combinations are possible.

No matter which ink configuration you use, X GAMUT makes optimal use of your printer’s entire color gamut and reproduces spot and brand colors very precisely. The colors can also be optimized and verified.

    Increasing image color saturation
Another important field where the strength of X GAMUT comes into play is the reproduction of RGB data. The color management software makes optimal use of the extended color gamut and delivers stunning print results with vivid, saturated colors – perfect for photo printing applications.
Separation and optimization of spot colors and images
The key to a perfect result is the intelligent separation of the measured color into the extended fixed set of process colors used in the printing process.

Spot and brand colors are replaced and reproduced without any spot inks while maintaining visual and colorimetric integrity. The conversion process optimizes the color data by reducing the number of separations to a minimum, thus minimizing the risk of moiré and clouding.

As a positive “side effect” this also reduces the total ink coverage, leading to shorter drying times and a leaner production process.

    Creation of multi-color profiles
With X GAMUT you can easily create multi-channel profiles that can also be used in other applications.
    Test chart generator
The built-in test chart generator allows you to create custom test charts for your printing presses. These test charts are essential for the CMYK+X color conversion process to characterize the color space of your printing system.

X GAMUT supports all commonly used measurement devices, including the latest models from X-Rite, Konica Minolta, or Barbieri.

    Management of spot color libraries
The X GAMUT software includes standard spot color libraries from Pantone and HKS. In addition to that, you can also create your own libraries and import and edit color data via CxF. There is also a direct interface to the CXF CLOUD to communicate all colors with all of their spectral properties easily and quickly all over the world.
    Central control
Trust is good, control is better: With our easy-to-use software CERTIFIED users are able to quickly verify prints for color accuracy and to store and evaluate all kinds of data from different devices in a central location. This gives every authorized user a detailed overview at any time.

FLEX PACK is available in a variety of different configurations, highlighted in further detail.

FLEX PACK - The software for packaging proofs and samples

The software was specially designed for the characteristics and highest requirements of the packaging industry. It is based on our patented iterative 4D color management technology and contains all functions and modules to produce various packaging proofs and packaging samples immediately, easily, and cost-effectively.

Functions such as pre-flighting, soft-proof, and proof certification are integrated, raster data such as Esko LEN are supported and the program naturally has packaging-specific spot color management that converts spectral data natively and even simulates the overprinting of spot colors perfectly.

Furthermore, cloud-based color databases such as the CGS ORIS CxF CLOUD or PantoneLIVE® are integrated.

FLEX PACK is available in different versions. Below, two of them are described in detail.

FLEX PACK + Roland DG - The proven classic

In this version, FLEX PACK is combined with printers of the Roland VersaCAMM VSi series. Contrary to conventional UV inkjet systems, it works with eco-solvent inks offering a brilliant print image and also white and metallic.

With the specially developed, highly pigmented XG INKS, which also includes orange and green, the color space guarantees that almost all special colors can be exactly reproduced.

The system offers unlimited possibilities for the production of packaging proofs and prototypes: From 'no-label-look' labels to stand-up pouches, bottles with shrink film labels to metal or luxury packaging with complex partial varnishing and embossing in any form that offers the unique look and feel. For any kind of finishing effects, FLEX PACK supports the Roland VersaUV LEF (2)-200/300 and LEC2-330s printers.

Here, a selection of samples is shown, many more can be found in our “Best Mockup Selection Brochure”. Thanks to the built-in ‘Print & Cut‘ function of Roland printers, even small series of self-adhesive labels can be produced effectively.

To ensure that you always have the right substrate available for any kind of job, we offer a large selection of proofing media that have been specially developed for this purpose and tailored to the special requirements.

Find out more about the broad portfolio of the PackPROOF family and its unique properties. One key element is the PACKProof Transfer Film, as it enables the production of packaging proofs and samples on the original production substrate.

Optionally, the system can be upgraded with additional hardware components, such as media preconditioning, drying systems, or media holders.

We also offer any necessary peripheral equipment, such as laminators, punches, and register devices. The system is fully customizable to your individual needs and requirements.

    FLEX PACK + Mutoh – Direct-to-substrate proofing

In this latest addition to the system, FLEX PACK is combined with the Mutoh Value Jet-628 MP or the Mutoh Value Jet-1628 MH, two digital piezo inkjet printers, specifically developed for the special requirements and needs of the packaging industry (further information can be found here).

The 'Direct-to-Substrate-Proofing' solution is a real breakthrough for the industry, as it enables true printing on original substrates – something many customers have been searching years for.

In addition to printing on substrates such as shrink films and other extremely thin flexibles, the new solution is particularly suited for proofing on uncoated label stock or cardboard.

Unlike UV inks, the specially developed multi-resin MP31 inks retain the look & feel and all other physical properties of the substrate, thus making it possible to create a proof or prototype which cannot be distinguished from the final product.

The current ink set contains CMYK, Orange, Green, Blue, and White inks which cover an extremely large color space. The inks have excellent adhesion to coated and uncoated substrates, are non-toxic, odorless, and have unique stretching and shrinking properties.

Ensuring the accuracy of artwork is crucial in the manufacturing of shrink sleeves, allowing for preemptive checks on distortion using the original shrink material.

As such, ‘Direct-to-Substrate-Proofing’ serves as an optimal solution for proofing applications that do not favor the use of transfer films with solvent-based inks or UV ink printing.

    PackPROOF Transfer Film

The PackPROOF Transfer Film is a breakthrough when it comes to the production of packaging proofs and mock-ups on original printing substrates. It contains a monomeric active layer that can be transferred to almost any stock using a standard laminator at low temperatures.

The film is only a few microns thick, color-neutral, and almost invisible. It has the same ink acceptance properties on both sides.

The thin film, which comes on a stable removable backing layer, is usually printed, then transferred using a laminator. Afterward, the support film is removed. It can be applied to almost all flexible or rigid materials, including sheet metal. Alternatively, the film can be transferred first and then printed.

The PackPROOF Transfer Film is now available in the 4th generation and has been constantly further developed. With the PackPROOF Embossing Foil, either a matte or semi-matte finish can also be achieved. The exact application is explained in our product information, which can be downloaded here (PDF).

    CXF TOOLBOX & COLOR CLOUD

Organize & communicate brand colors with all spectral properties – easily & effectively

Communicating colors simply but precisely is becoming more and more important in our globalized world. Especially brand owners do not want to compromise when it comes to color reproduction. Why should they?

EDP Logo 2021From initial design to the digitally or conventionally printed product, color communication always needs to be reliable, effective, and easy. The ability to organize brand color information with all of its print-related properties is the essential basis for that.

CxF is the key. With this format, it is not only possible to transport all characteristics of brand and spot colors.

Since it is an open standard, CxF can also be used immediately by anyone involved in the production process. This makes CxF data the ideal basis for an uncomplicated management and exchange of spectral color data – locally or in the cloud.

    CXF EN Gears

With CXF TOOLS you can quickly generate, manage, and analyze CxF data. Even existing libraries can be corrected easily.

Comprehensive digitalization of color optimizes the coordination and production processes and makes them much faster and less expensive. This ensures that media designers have exact specifications at hand and use the correct color at any time. CxF also assures correct ink formulation by the ink manufacturer. By embedding CxF data in the artwork file, you can be sure that it always contains the latest color information relevant to the printing company.

The result is consistent color reproduction in every print run and perfect brand colors worldwide!

    CERTIFIED & EVALUATE

Simple and effective quality control for proofs, press sheets, digital and conventional print systems

Simple and effective quality control is essential for delivering optimal print results and consistent quality. Ideally, the system informs the user, whenever a device or process deviates from a set standard and requires optimization or user intervention.

CERTIFIED enables you to easily measure and evaluate color wedges on any proof or press sheet. Color wedges for commonly used standards such as SWOP, GRACoL, 3DAP, FOGRA are included and custom color wedges can be added easily.

To verify spot colors, users can create their own color set by selecting spot colors from a library or entering its LAB values. CERTIFIED measurement results can be printed on a self-adhesive label to be put on the proof or as a detailed report.

The intelligent tool provides company-wide overviews, detailed reports, and trend analyses - all with just a few clicks. Clear facts help you to avoid any discussions about color problems.

The web-based software can be easily integrated into existing infrastructures and workflows. It is extremely effective and flexible and at the same time easy to use thanks to its intuitive wizard-based user interface.

Optionally, it connects to the EVALUATE web server, to which the measurement results of all monitored devices are automatically saved. The data can be accessed and evaluated from anywhere in the world via a web browser.
